10:48pm: "When I was a kid, my mom used to just throw me into a pile of broken glass!"
So, apparently there are people who are interpreting the laws to get lead out of products aimed at children as meaning that BOOKS ARE DANGEROUS and anyone under 12 should be banned from the library and/or all books aimed at children should be taken off the library shelves.

An American Library Association leter with details and what you can do is here: http://dintywrites.blogspot.com/2009/01/scary-library-shit.html

And more info from the ALA can be found here

Seriously. What the f---? When did people get so off the rails as this?

The quote in the subject heading is from Friends, said by Chandler in "The one with Joey's Porsche". I'm not suggesting that my mum ever threw me into a pile of broken glass...although I was allowed to play with sand...and books.

4:03pm: I luffs you interwebs
I am most empleasened with myself. I only have one Christmas gift left to buy and I haven't been into a single shop (^__^) I've even sent stuff to America without going anywhere near the post office.

One of the ladies in work asked me if doing it online didn't take "the fun out of it", but since crowds, and shopping, and crowded shops have never been my idea of "fun", my no was rather emphatic. I mean I can barely deal with walking down the streets in December/January because it's just so much more crowded than usual, never mind plodding around the shops trying to think while being shoved this way and that, back aching, eyes tired from the bright lights, and a throbbing Christmas music induced headache. No thank you.

More to the point, if I buy all my gifts at home via the magical interwebs I can drink tea and read a book at the same time, and you can't beat that, in my opinion.

10:20am: Ok, I live on an ice-rink. This morning I literally had to just let myself slide along the pavement (side walk) to the grass before I could actually take proper steps and walk. I think under normal circumstances this might have been fun, but I had a really horrible night's sleep last night so I was already pretty grumpy by the time I made my way outside.

Although I have to say, it is pretty funny in hindsight.

10:59am: I suppose probability means it has to be right every once in a while
Normally I don't put too much store in my horoscope (as it appears in newspapers/magazines anyway), but this is what I got from the Metro today:

"Patience is required in absolute bucketloads as your carefully made plans fall to pieces. The good news is that what emerges in their place is likely to be even better than you had planned. Stay flexible and keep an open mind."

Which is exactly what I needed to hear actually...

3:40pm: I do love banned books
Since Banned Books Week is coming up this month in America (September 27 - October 4), I thought I would resurrect this banned books meme.

Go read about the most frequently challenged books. It's hilarious...in a sad and frightening way.

Of course, just because a book has been banned doesn't mean it's any good.

1:43pm: What's your seduction style?
Ok, since the image doesn't seem to want to show itself (although you can still click where the image should be to take the test yourself) my result was "The Escape Artist":

We don't know how you figured it out, but you've managed to keep your lovers close despite your critical view of the world. Maybe you aren't cynical, just a little cautious. Either way, you've managed to keep your head on your shoulders. You do have a little bit of misanthropy going on up in there, but hey, when you build your solar powered cabin in the woods everything will be fine.

It's very rare to meet someone so clever that isn't into taking advantage of romantic or sensitive people. Your best seduction move: be your honest and insightful self. A straight shooter (even a slightly damaged straight shooter) is a fine catch for anyone.

I do totally want my own solar powered cabin in the woods...
